Neal Stephenson on Moonshots
Snowcrash was a brilliant book. Listened to an audio version. Looking forward to reading more of Neal’s work. Here he is delivering a short lecture where he chides us on, perhaps, neglecting our potential. “The best minds of our generation work on spam filters” instead of shooting for the moon. The acceleration of technology has slowed. He compares the differences in technology at the start of the 20th century and the 1960s to the differences between the 60s and today. Not a lot changing. But, perhaps we needed a basecamp. Perhaps we needed a season of recovery before surging ahead.
